The birth of my career in roofing, siding, and construction occurred over 25-years ago.  Throughout my career in the construction industry I have had the privilege to work with not only the best and the brightest, but also some of the not-so good in the industry.  From both, I have learned what it takes to finish any project with the complete satisfaction of the client foremost in my mind.  It is why I surround myself with industry contacts, suppliers, and create work teams that understand this level of commitment.

My career started doing construction on custom houses.  My mentor then was Bob O.  Bob never sat down for lunch.  When I asked Bob about this, his reply was simple, “If you worked for my father, you wouldn’t sit down, either.” I chuckle about this even today.  What I learned from Bob in the early years was one simple word: PRECISION.  Bob was an “old-school carpenter” - the guy who did carpentry before the advent of power tools.  He was all about precision.  When you’re building a home from the beginning, a lot of things have to be prepared at the outset in order to accommodate all of the other phases of construction that grow from the frame.   Bob was a master-planner.  He was the “layout guy.”  He planned for the middle and end before the beginning was ever laid to paper.   This is where I learned to be considerate of the work that others have to do when your portion of the project is complete.

The middle years afforded me the opportunity to expand my knowledge and skills to the areas of low-slope commercial and industrial roofing.  Over the course of the next 15-years or so, I worked with several businesses.  What I learned during these times, while helping others earn a lot of money, was that my superiors were afraid to teach me all of the intricacies of the jobs out of a strong fear that I would replace them.  Or, I might take their knowledge and leave for better opportunities.  Truth be told, what it really comes down to is doing things the way they are detailed in the manufacturing books.  Right then and there I discovered that the best way to learn how to do things - take home the manufacture specification books and study them from cover-to-cover.  And study I did.  Every single night I could be found reading these manuals and teaching myself every last detail for planning, installation, and completion of the myriad of projects that make up my business today.

Where I often saw the most mistakes being made were in the planning stages.  Many organizations were in such a hurry to land the contract, that the planning for the middle and end of the project suffered.  This is where I discovered what I call “The Art of Reading the Blueprints.”  In more humorous moments, I’ve often believed that blueprints are designed to confuse people.  Like a puzzle, there are interlocking phases of different portions of the project.  Some are outside of the scope of our area of expertise, but are absolutely critical to the accurate completion of our tasks.  Careful consideration must be taken for all of those who are working on the various phases of any given project like the plumbers, HVAC, electricians, stone masons, and more!  Our work interfaces with every other contractor on the project.

This is why I chose to start my own business nearly a decade ago.  These experiences are the foundation of my knowledge, skills, and expertise.  They have shaped the exacting standards I bring to every project.  It is why uncompromising commitment to quality, safety, and customer satisfaction is my personality and my business.
